The West-Indianlemongrass (C.citratus), belongs to Malaysia & ismore typically used for cooking. Lemongrass is extensively grown in Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka,Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, the north-eastern region. 

India is the highest producer of Lemongrass with 80% of the produce being exported. The essential oilis being traditionally exported to Europe, U.S.A. & Asian Countries. Lemongrass is a tropical long lasting plant that yields aromatic oil. Its name is derived from the typical lemon like odour of essential oil present in the shoot. It's known for its use in curies, soups, & herbal teas. Essential oil is used in aromatherapy. C-citratus is also used as a medical herb & repellents.
